The home office is coming together! now that the furniture is in place, time to dress the walls. Since one side of the wall had the new shelving unit, I knew I wanted to keep the other side pretty minimal.
Here’s the wall before the art:
Alright, let’s get to work. First head to your local thrift store and find a large canvas art – doesn’t matter what is on it, you’ll be covering it! Bonus if there’s a frame around it.
If it has a frame, make sure to tape it off before doing the work.

Priming the canvas is important
This might not seem like a crucial step, but spray painting the canvas is super important. Since you are making indentations with the tile scraper, it will show underneath – so it’s best to prime the under color (unless you plan to paint the finished product altogether)
Smother like butter on bread
After the spray paint dries, which is less than 20 minutes – time for the fun. Take dollops of the joint compound and smother over your canvas like butter on bread. Not too thick! Work fast so then you can get to the fun part.
Now comes the shaping
Utilize all sizes of the tooth comb to vary the texture sizes. I Pinterest’ed “joint compound DIY” and found some inspiration, but ended up winging it. If you don’t like it – feel free to take the putty knife and smooth back over.
