upcycling diy terracotta vases from thrifted vases
we were able to achieve the textural terracotta look with just water-based paint and baking soda! as requested, i added all our paints used and the ratio breakdown below.
to achieve this #diyterracotta: 1 cup of water-based paint + 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder
- why baking soda? baking soda reacts with the water in the water-based paint to bubble up and create texture when painted on. so yes, it’s important to use water-based paint.
- water-based paint – we tested tempera and acrylic paint for this!
- application – some vase materials require more than 2 coats, such as water. don’t forget to paint the inside of the vase to get that authentic look.
